Famega Vinho Verde
It’s 55 and raining here in Rochester, NY where I am visiting my parents. Despite the fact that it’s June, it sure doesn’t feel like summer. Nonetheless, my mom and I decided to crack open a bottle of Vinho Verde – a perfect summer wine – so we could at least pretend the sun was shining and it was porch sitting weather. (Check out the view from my parents’ front porch. Beautiful!)
My mom picked this bottle up per the recommendation of the owner of the wine store. (Side note: wines are not sold in grocery stores in New York. They have individually owned liquor and wine specific stores.) It was the last bottle left of this label, so we took that as a good sign.
It was quite yummy! Like most Vinho Verdes, it had a little bit of a sparkle to it especially straight from the fridge. It was pretty dry, with just a little bite to it – but bright, like a lemon. As it came to closer to room temperature, I noticed a little bit of a grassy taste (in a good way) and a bit more fruit. It was a great pre-dinner sipping wine, and would be a nice bottle to think along on a picnic or to a cookout. I love just about every Vinho Verde I’ve come across and this one was no exception! I don’t think you could go wrong with this bottle, especially at the price point. Good pick, Mom!

I just got introduced to vinho verdes last fall (from Anna S!) and I love them! I’ll have to track this one down. Have a great trip! xo
Yay Anna! She has good taste. Camino often has a VV too!
Thanks Meg! I’ll have to give it a try. I have some Broadbent in the refrigerator, it too is tasty. Enjoy your visit!
I love Broadbent too! Perfect summer wines. Thanks, I had a great trip home… I think my mom enjoyed my (Bo’s) visit too. 🙂
We love Famega wine, but can never find here in NW Ohio. Most wine distributors say they cannot get because it arrives by ship only once in a while. Awesome wine for a great price.
Oh interesting! I wonder if that’s why there was only one bottle left at the store. I’ll have to look to see if it’s carried in my grocery store now that I’m back home in NC. Sounds like if I find it, I better snatch up a few bottles!
